We are an internet based boating club designed mainly to help boaters world wide meet one another in their home base as crew or for social events. Or, and maybe moreso, when travelling, to meet one another for a day at sea. We have been in operation since 1994 and have had an internet presence since 1995, although the latest version is only one year old, started in 2008. But, it is a gay boating club, right?It's actually a boating club for gays/lesbians/ and gay-friendly straight folk who enjoy boating; whether that is sailing, or power boating. Sure, but the mere fact that you have chosen the name Rainbow tells everyone that it is gay, so how can I maintain any sense of privacy.Believe it or not, there are over 200,000 references to Rainbow Groups on the internet and they aren't all gay. The rainbow denotes many things...one of the most profound things it stands for is that people of all colors and stripes can unite to form a beautiful mosaic of life. So, come join the program...even if you're gay, the rainbow stands for a lot more than just that....Naturally, we value highly our rainbow connection to gay life and we welcome it. But, no, we don't flaunt it... we just flaunt a happy, rewarding outlook on life. Do I have to have a boat to join? No, not at all. Many of our members don't have boats...they join up to meet others for social events or to be crew on other people's boats. The primary requirement is that you must be seriously interested in boating. Isn't this really just another dating club?No, not at all. In fact we don't encourage using the club for that purpose. Most of our members are serious boaters . But if you are single and you meet someone else who is single and you end up together...great....!!! Be sure to tell us about it. I don't like spam mail. Will I get a lot as a result of belonging to this group?You will get absolutely none! In fact we frown upon it. This is a private membership social list only... no ads even from other members about their businesses. We do have a classifieds section where you are free to advertise your business, but NO writing ads to members directly. This group seems to be fairly heavily power boat oriented. I am a sailor...why should I join.? Besides there are nice sailing clubs elsewhere on the internet.There most certainly are nice sailing clubs all over the internet. In fact, AOL has a fabulous sailing group and forum. However to the best of our knowledge this is the ONLY powerboating club on the internet and almost definitely the only gay oriented worldwide boating club on the internet. The fact that we seem to be heavy on the powerboating side is a coincidence...our membership here was low and so we have focused on that for the time being. We welcome all sailors and all boaters. We recommend that you belong to as many clubs as you like.... we think you would enjoy belonging to this one as well, but you will never know unless you sign up. Our membership at present is about 50/50 sailors vs. powerboaters. Okay...so how much does it cost? There is no membership fee.. it is a free site, although there is a modest upgrade at $4.95us annually available through PayPal if you want to avoid seeing the advertising. Does your club have a clubhouse?We are a virtual club...existing on the internet and we are working on setting up our clubhouse on the internet, with discussion rooms, and places to go and read reference material, notices from other members and so on. How do members communicate with one another? We have an onsite membership system with private messaging. This is available ONLY to registered members. Does the club have a burgee or a mascot? Yes, we have a burgee and it is available for the sum of $40US. This is special order only, and may take some time to fill. The burgee includes one extra stripe in the normal rainbow flag to represent our club. The extra stripe is powder blue.You are not required to have one of these at all.We also have a mascot who we call CAPTAIN RAINBOW. (Our Manager, Marinaro, uses his pic as admin avatar.
